About Us

Scribbles Theatre is focused on creating stories that inspire future generations to write or tell their own tales.

Founder Matthew Mckew has been a journalist since 2013, but suffered a major setback in his career when a severe head injury in 2021 left him temporarily unable to read and write. He turned to acting, comedy and fictional writing to rebuild his cognitive abilities.

Diagnosed with a Functioning Neurological Disorder, Matthew went on to rebuild his life and is now solidly focused on ensuring new generations have the skills needed to develop the same sense of intrigue and excitement about the world around them.

Scribbles Theatre hires professional, Equity-member actors with a passion for working with children. It is our hope that every single performance has a lasting impact on the audience of young minds.

In a world of ever-increasing screen use and AI, we want children to observe the world around them with their own eyes and encourage their imaginations through group and individual play.

So, let’s get writing a story together, be it capturing the funniest tale on the playground or entirely made up!

We monitor the National Curriculum closely to make sure our shows align with national benchmarks for child literacy.

“Armed with a Harry Scribbles notebook, I hope children feel empowered to write and tell their own stories.”

— Matthew, Founder of Scribbles Theatre
